ARTIST STATEMENT
Being a graphic designer, sometimes it’s overwhelming when you understand how much research, time and thought goes into the messages we see everyday. Countless options are weighed to ensure the viewer understands exactly what the creator wanted. Painting is a way to relax and get off of the computer and leave that all behind.
A mentor once told me, that the paint will do all the work if you let it. I walk up to the canvas and begin by letting the brush run wild. I embrace the paint. I analyze the composition and I emphasize interesting relationships. I then work around the canvas to rebuild the rest. It turns into a challenging and creative exercise. I’m usually drawn to organic shapes and vivid color palettes. I create something that leads the viewer feeling positive and lets them get lost in finding imagery within the shapes.
I stop working when your eye moves effortlessly around the work. I love trying new textures, techniques, reductions and color combinations. I’m not asking you to receive any specific messages, so this lets the viewer have their own personal connection to the work. Viewers often tend to take me on a journey of what they are seeing in the shapes. It is always gratifying and never the same.
